Why isn't it working for the fields that are added after page load? A: Closest will only work properly if all of the elements have the same ancestors. Since your new elements are added after load but before the jquery click event fire, the closest will no longer find them. This is a common problem on relatively new versions of jquery. I haven't tested it, but you could try changing it so the new elements (the selectedRow and selectedColumn elements) are the ancestors of the new elements as you create them.
